“Why does the world need another book about Christian ‘answers’?”
Good question. And that’s how Childs opens his book, Christian Logic: Answers For Thinking People (Making A Case For Christianity and Jesus Christ).
The easy answer is because this book is a little different.
Many books of this nature are staid, threatening or preachy. But from that very first sentence, Childs tries to establish something of a relationship with his reader through an unpretentious conversational style. In places, he uses humor—wait until you read about the Big Bang—but in others, he shares personal and poignant stories to illustrate his points.
He covers a few Christian fundamentals such as the existence of God, God’s answers to prayer, and the value of organized religion. He attempts to make his points succinctly, but there are topics for which his brevity prevents establishing a solid argument. You may find yourself wishing he had included a bit more depth.
As suggested by the book’s title, he employs a simple Christian logic to make his cases. His ideas are creative, and will contain a few points you may not have previously considered. And even when you don’t agree with a point, you will think it through—and perhaps develop a few ideas of your own.
This is a book to take one chapter at a time as part of a series of meditations. Childs includes at least one reference to scripture in each chapter to provide context for additional thought. He also concludes each chapter with a list of questions to ponder.
